Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown, police have busted a sex racket operating from a hotel located on Binika Road in Subarnapur district.
During a late-night surprise raid, authorities rescued five women involved in prostitution and detained seven customers from different rooms of the hotel.
The women and customers were taken into custody and are currently being questioned at the Sonepur police station. Police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the background of the women, including their native places and the duration for which they had been engaged in prostitution at the hotel.
According to preliminary information, the police acted on a secret tip-off about illegal activities at the hotel.
The raid was conducted on Saturday night, taking advantage of a power outage in the area, which helped maintain the element of surprise. During the operation, police seized various objectionable items from the premises.
