Cuttack: Three police personnel have been suspended allegedly due to custodial death in Odisha. The incident took place in the Choudwar Police Station of Cuttack district.
According to reports, there occured a suspicious death of a person detained in custody at the Choudwar police station. Following the incident, the ACP, Sub Inspector (SI) and constable have been suspended.
“On the direction of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, ACP Biswa Ranjan Sahu, in charge of Choudwar police station, has been suspended after a report of custodial death in the police station,” read a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s office.
Similarly, police station SI Niranjan Goda and constable Kamal Lochan Majhi have also been suspended. It is worth mentioning here that, Rasananda Nayak, a resident of Dhenkanal district who was detained at the Choudwar police station in a vehicle theft case died suspiciously at the police station.
The Choudwar police admitted the youth to SCB Medical College in a critical condition last night. The doctor declared him dead there. The police had detained him following a complaint in a vehicle theft case. The accused had been detained by the police since yesterday. His wife has filed a complaint that it was a custodial death and that the police beat Rasananda to death. However, it is yest to be ascertained how the death occured.
