Kandhamal-Ganjam Border | September 22: A major landslide struck the Kalinga Ghat region on the Kandhamal-Ganjam border once again, causing complete disruption of road connectivity between the two districts. The incident occurred while ongoing repair and construction works were underway, which had already been slowed down due to continuous heavy rainfall.
According to local sources, stones from the hilltop collapsed during the repair work, washing away essential construction materials such as boulders, sand, and gravel. The landslide has rendered the road completely unusable. The situation worsened as torrential rains continued, causing loose soil and debris to slide onto the ghat road.
Connectivity between Kandhamal and Ganjam districts has been completely cut off, as the Kalinga Ghat road is the only route linking the two regions. The area had already witnessed a landslide just last week, following which repair work had resumed. However, repeated rainfall has undone the restoration efforts.
