Bengaluru: Bengaluru police have arrested Suvendu Mohata, a 23-year-old hospital staff member for secretly recording female nurses while they were changing clothes inside the Operation theatre (OT) officials said.
The matter came to light after some nurses noticed Mohata behaving suspiciously inside the unit and watching videos on his phone on Monday morning and raised concerns with the hospital authorities. A complaint was subsequently lodged at the Annapoorneshwari Nagar Police Station for further investigation.
Police arrested Mohata and seized his phone, which contained several recorded videos. During questioning, the police reportedly found videos that had been recorded secretly. The recordings were allegedly made without the knowledge or consent of the nurses. The accused had placed his mobile in restricted areas of the OT to record women staff while they were changing and later retrieved the device when no one was around.
The accused phone was seized and he was taken into custody, and booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act for invasion of privacy. Police said they are also investigating whether the videos were shared with others or uploaded online.
Hospital authorities said the employee has been suspended with immediate effect. The management added that it is cooperating fully with the investigation and has assured staff that strict action will be taken in cases involving misconduct or harassment.
The incident has caused concern among hospital staff, particularly women employees, who have called for stronger security measures and better monitoring of sensitive areas within hospital premises.
Police officials stated that further investigation is ongoing.
