Koraput: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday apprehended Sukma Hansdah, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Dasmantpur Police Station in Koraput district, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
As per Vigilance, the trap was laid earlier today after a relative of an accused approached the officials with a complaint. Sukma Hansdah was the investigating officer in a case registered at Dasmantpur police station.
The accused was lodged in the jail and has been remanded to judicial custody. The Court has called for the case diary in the case. To produce the case diary, Hansdah demanded Rs 20,000 from the accused’s relative to produce the case diary in court. The relative then reported the matter to the Vigilance officials.
Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and caught the officer red-handed while receiving the bribe amount from the relative of the accused.
The entire tainted bribe money Rs.20,000/-has been recovered from the possession of Hansdah and seized.
Following the trap, Vigilance officials also launched simultaneous searches at two locations linked to the accused officer to probe possible disproportionate assets.
In this connection, Koraput Vigilance Police Station Case No. 39/2025 has been registered against Hansdah under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
