 Angul: Elephant tramples woman in Odisha’s Angul district. In a tragic incident, a tusker trampled a woman to death in Angul district of Odisha. The incident took place in the Shankhapur village under Angul forest division.


The deceased woman has been identified as Ichha Dehuri.

As per the information received, the elephant attacked the woman and as a result she sustained critical injuries. As the locals saw this they called the ambulance and Ichha was rushed to the hospital. However, during her treatment she succumbed to her injuries.

Human-elephant conflict has raised alarm in this area. Reports suggest, over the last five years, more than 150 elephants have died in the Angul forest division alone. During the same period, over 225 people have lost their lives in elephant attacks.

The data highlights the growing intensity of the elephant conflicts in the district and across the state. Frequent movement of elephant herds into residential areas has raised serious concerns over wildlife management and human safety.

The escalating conflict between humans and elephants in Odisha remains a major challenge, demanding urgent and effective intervention to prevent further loss of lives on both sides.
