Floating bridge vessel with 50 people onboard gets stuck in Chilika

 Brahmagiri: Floating bridge vessel (Bhasa Pola) with at least 50 people onboard got stuck in the middle of Chilika lake near Mahinsa of Satapada in Odisha on Thursday.

The floating bridge vessel was reportedly carrying around 50 people, 30 bikes, 4 cars, and one bus. According to sources, the floating bridge vessel got stuck on a sand dune after it lost way due to dense fog during its journey to to Satpada on Sunday.


As per reports, one person has gone missing amid the chaos and efforts are underway to rescue the stranded passengers onboard the floating bridge vessel.

Earlier on January 14, a passenger boat en route to Maa Kalijai shrine with 20 devotees on board got stuck midway in Chilika lake due to dense fog. This prompted the local administration to temporarily suspend the boat service in Chilika lake until the fog subsided.

Moreover, it is not the time that a floating bridge vessel with passengers has got stranded in the middle of Chilika lake. The repeated occurrence of floating bridge vessel getting stuck in the middle of Chilika lake have emerged as a matter of grave concern.
