Odisha CM chairs Chilika Development Authority meeting to review Chilika Lake restoration plan

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Odisha today chaired a meeting of the Chilika Development Authority (CDA) to review the proposed Chilika Restoration Plan, focusing on the long-term conservation, protection, and sustainable management of Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on ecological challenges facing Chilika Lake, measures required for its restoration, and the need for a coordinated and science-driven approach involving multiple stakeholders.

The restoration plan had earlier been discussed on 6 January with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, when Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan and Puri MP Sambit Patra met her to seek Central support for Chilika’s long-term revival and protection.

The discussions also took note of a scientific study conducted by IIT Madras, which has identified key ecological issues affecting Chilika Lake and outlined a comprehensive roadmap for its sustainable restoration.

The Chilika Development Authority was advised to continue close coordination with relevant State and Central agencies to ensure timely and effective implementation of the restoration measures.
