Kalahandi: A home guard attached to Jaipatna Police Station in Kalahandi district has been suspended over allegations of extortion and misuse of official position, police said on Sunday.
The suspended home guard, identified as Pabitra Mohan Nayak, was allegedly involved in collecting money illegally from local liquor traders, owners of betting and gambling operations, and individuals linked to the ganja trade. He is also accused of intimidating people in the area and exerting undue influence, sources said.
According to reports, Nayak, being a local resident of the Jaipatna area, was allegedly operating an informal network through which he extorted money from various illegal and semi-legal businesses in the locality.
Following complaints regarding his activities, the matter came to the notice of senior police officials. Kalahandi Superintendent of Police Nagaraj Devarakonda ordered his suspension after preliminary verification of the allegations.
