Baliguda : A 33-year-old man identified as Kamdev Majhi was lured out of his house on the pretext of hunting and shot dead in Saperi village under Belghar police station in Kandhamal district.
Addressing a joint press conference, Baliguda SDPO Shubham Bhosle and Belghar Police Officer Saumya Ranjan Pati said that preliminary investigation has revealed that previous enmity and old rivalry were the primary reasons behind the murder. They clarified that the killing does not appear to be linked to land dispute, property issue, or illicit relationship. However, investigation into all possible angles will continue.
Based on the complaint filed by the deceased’s wife, Chumuki Majhi, Belghar Police registered Case No. 39/26 under Sections 103(1), 3(5) of BNS along with Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act.
According to the wife’s statement, the accused persons called her husband out of the house saying they were going for hunting. Later, they informed her that her husband had died.
Following the incident, police formed a special team and arrested two accused — Lipu Majhi and Madhusudan Majhi. Two country-made guns were seized from their possession and they have been forwarded to court.
SDPO Shubham Bhosle informed that scientific and technical evidence is also being collected, and further investigation is underway.
