Baliguda, Kandhamal: In a late-night theft incident, villagers detained two youths on suspicion of stealing rice from a Public Distribution System (PDS) godown in Mahasingi Panchayat under Baliguda Police Station limits in Kandhamal district.
According to reports, the supply assistant had locked the godown and rice distribution centre on Sunday evening after completing his duty. On Monday morning, local residents noticed the lock of the godown had been broken open and immediately informed Mahasingi Sarpanch Ranjit Mallick.
The Sarpanch visited the spot and alerted K. Nuagaon Block Supply Inspector Pritiranjan Bishwal. Upon arriving at the location, the Supply Inspector conducted a stock verification and found that out of 963 bags of rice stored in the godown, 9 bags had been stolen.
Baliguda Police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Meanwhile, the two youths caught by the villagers on suspicion of involvement in the theft were handed over to the police. Further investigation is underway.
