Cuttack: The body of a 28-year-old woman was recovered from the Kathajodi near Subhas Setu at Trishulia on Thursday morning.
According to reports, the body was recovered after some locals spotted a bag and slippers lying near the bridge and alerted police. Upong being informed, Baranga police and fire services personnel reached the spot and retrieved the body from the river. It was later sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.

The deceased has been identified as Chandrika Hembram, based on a doctor’s prescription found in her bag.
Police also recovered a mobile phone from the bag. While locals claimed the woman jumped into the river from the bridge, police are investigating all possibilities. The case is being probed from both angles — suicide by jumping from the bridge and suspected homicide.
Baranga police have started an investigation. The circumstances leading to the death will be ascertained after post-mortem and examination of call records and other evidence.
