Bhubaneswar: A former junior artisan of the Electrical Section was convicted by a vigilance court on Tuesday in a bribery case. Chandrakanta Rout, earlier posted as Junior Artisan in the office of JE, Power House, Unit-VIII, Bhubaneswar, was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The case relates to allegations that Rout had demanded and accepted bribe from a complainant to process the file for a new electric connection to his house. Rout has since been terminated from service.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar convicted him in the case and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year along with a fine.
Odisha Vigilance said the conviction is part of its ongoing drive against corruption in public offices.
