Bhubaneswar: Flood conditions have prevailed in 6 districts of Odisha affecting 52 blocks, 170 Gram Panchayats and 429 villages with a total of 2,09,687 people impacted, according to the latest report released by the Special Relief Commissioner.
The situation remained comparatively serious in Mayurbhanj, Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Sundargarh due to rise in river levels, inundation, embankment breaches and disruption of road connectivity.
According to the SRC report, 41,881 persons have been evacuated from low-lying and marooned areas and accommodated in 127 relief shelters. At present, 38,161 persons are staying in these shelters. To ensure food for the affected families, 127 free kitchens are operational across the affected districts.
The report stated that 33 villages have been marooned due to flood waters. As per preliminary data, 425 houses have been damaged and 1,623 hectares of crop area have been affected. Six livestock casualties have also been reported. No human casualty has been reported so far.
One embankment breach was reported on the Left Bank of Baitarani river at Anandapur in Kendujhar district. For rescue and relief operations, 39 ODRAF teams, 7 NDRF teams and 33 Fire Service teams have been deployed in the affected areas. Relief and restoration work is continuing on a war footing.
The State Emergency Operations Centre is monitoring the situation round the clock in coordination with District Emergency Operations Centres. The overall flood situation has been classified as improving with an improving trend since the previous report. However, Baleshwar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Sundargarh districts continue to remain under close watch.
Officials said damage assessment and restoration works are underway in all affected districts.
