Lathikata Tahasildar’s Ill-Gotten Wealth Unearthed; Total Cash Seizure Rises To Rs 10.74L

 Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Friday unearthed more assets belonging to Muralidhar Urmal, Tahasildar-cum-Sub-Registrar of Lathikata in Sundargarh district.

During house searches conducted at Sundargarh and Rourkela, the anti-corruption agency recovered an additional Rs 5.74 lakh in cash, taking the total cash seizure to Rs 10.74 lakh.

On Thursday, Vigilance had intercepted Urmal near Rajabasa Chhak in Lathikata while he was travelling from his office to his residence in Rourkela in his hired office vehicle (Scorpio). Rs 5 lakh cash was recovered from his possession. As he failed to satisfactorily explain the source of the money, the amount along with the vehicle was seized.


In the subsequent searches, Vigilance unearthed huge assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Other assets unearthed so far include:

  • One double-storeyed building with an area of approx 3700 Sqft located at Karmadihi, Sundargarh.
  • 6 high-value plots on the outskirts of Sundargarh and Rourkela town.
  • Gold jewellery 241 grams and silver ornaments 635 grams.
  • Bank, Postal & Insurance deposits worth Rs 66.10 lakh.
  • One four-wheeler (i10 Hyundai Grand Sports) and 3 two-wheelers.

Vigilance said searches are still continuing and further report is awaited.
