Bhubaneswar: Schools and Anganwadi centres will remain closed in several districts of Odisha today, August 18, 2026, in view of the heavy rainfall forecast and worsening flood situation. The decision has been taken for the safety of students.
In Bhadrak district, the Collector has declared a holiday for 268 schools across six flood-affected blocks. As per the order, all schools in the specified blocks shall remain closed today.
Bant block has been excluded from the closure order. In addition, 567 Anganwadi centres located in the affected areas will also remain shut today. District officials said clogged roads and inclement weather have made it difficult for students to commute to their respective schools.
School and Anganwadi centres will also remain closed in Sundaragada district today due to the heavy rainfall forecast and flood situation.
Similar orders have been issued in Jajpur district, where all government, private and Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya schools have been instructed to remain closed. The district administration said the decision has been taken keeping the flood situation in mind and prioritising the safety and well-being of students.
The administration has urged parents to ensure children stay indoors and avoid waterlogged areas.
