Bhubaneswar: A farmer was killed in an elephant attack in the Hindol Forest Range of Dhenkanal district.
The deceased farmer has been identified as Bishnu Nayak, a resident of Patla village under Balimi police station.
According to reports, Nayak had gone to his farmland on Sunday evening. When he did not return home till night, his family members launched a search for him. His body was recovered from a paddy field on Monday morning. He reportedly died after being trampled by death.
As a herd of elephants is still present near the village, fear has gripped the local residents. Forest department staff have reached the spot and are monitoring the movement of the elephant herd.
Continuous elephant attacks in the Hindol area have created unrest among villagers. Locals have demanded immediate financial assistance for the deceased’s family and urged the administration to drive the elephant herd away from the locality.
