Bhubaneswar: With the aim to empower young women and expanding the footprint of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in the state, the Odisha government today proposed the formation of five new NCC Girls Battalions.
Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj has written to Col. Satyabrata Swain Director, NCC, about the raising of five NCC girls battalions in Odisha under state NCC expansion plan.
“I would like to convey the intent of Higher Education Department, Government of Odisha to enhance the reach and impact of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) within the state, particularly with an emphasis on increasing the participation of girl students. As per our earlier discussion with DG NCC, the total strength of NCC cadets in the State is to be expanded from existing 63,000 to 90,000 cadets. Accordingly, it is proposed to raise five (05) new NCC Girls Battalions in Odisha as part of a comprehensive expansion plan of NCC in the State,” he wrote.
“The proposal is in line with the Government of India’s vision to empower youth through discipline, leadership, and nation-building opportunities. The proposed expansion will also address the increasing demand from educational institutions and stakeholders for wider NCC coverage among female students,” he added.
In this context, it is informed that all necessary support towards raising and maintaining these five girls’ battalions shall be provided by the Government. It is, therefore, requested to submit a comprehensive proposal at an earliest for implementation with the following aspects:
- District-wise or region-wise deployment plan.
