Cuttack: The Odisha Crime Branch has reportedly arrested two person on charges of cheating a woman of Rs 1,56,000,00 in Online investment scam.
As informed by the Crime Branch, one Mamata Rout of Balisahi village under Salipur police station limits of Cuttack district had lodged a complaint alleging that she was cheated to the tune of Rs 1,56,000,00 by the accused persons for willful adoption of deceitful means and promise of high return on investment in different online gaming platforms world.net, bounty game in, ubitcoin staking opportunity, ride BNB, HAHM between February 2024 and February 2025.
Based on the complaint, CID CB Police Station Case No.05 dt. 07.07.2025 U/s 3(5)/316(2)/ 318(4)/351(3)/ 61(2) BNS-2023, Sec. 6 of OPID Act 2011 read with Sec. 3, 4 & 5 of Prize Chits & Money Circulation Scheme (Banning) Act 1978 was registered.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused persons Kamadev Rout, Bikram Kumar Jethi and their associates had assured the victim for high value return on investment and thus lured her to transfer Rs 57,39,471 to 10 different bank accounts furnished by accused persons. Besides cash, Rs 98,60,529 also given by the victim to the accused persons on different dates.
On due analysis of financial transaction of the victim and that of the accused persons it is found that a sum of Rs 14,77,000 and Rs 8,45,046 has been transferred to the account of accused Kamadev Rout and Bikram Kumar Jethi respectively during the reported period from the account of the complainant and her friend Kshirendra Kumar Sahoo.
The accused persons Kamadev Rout and Bikram Kumar Jethi with an intention to further extract money from victim contacted her over phone and came down to Cuttack on 16.07.2025 and 17.07.2025 and were apprehended by the team of CID Crime Branch.
Electronic gadgets including mobile phones of the accused persons were seized and preliminary investigation further reveals that the accused persons have purchased several immovable properties inkling land, vehicle and gold ornament at BBSR and Jharakhand.
The accused persons are being forwarded to the Presiding Officer, Designated Court under OPID Act, Cuttack, considering the statutory period of detention envisaged u/s 58 BNSS. Further investigation is in process to trace out the links of accused persons and to find out their investment in this case.
