Bhubaneswar: Jay Dholakia, son of the late BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia, is set to file his nomination papers as the BJP candidate for the Nuapada bypoll roday.

He will submit his nomination papers at 2:45 pm in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and State BJP President Manmohan Samal. Jay Dholakia along with over 40,000 leaders and workers will make a big rally and file their nominations as a show of strength.

Yesterday, BJP held a huge merger party at the Komana Block Udyana Bandha of Nuapada.

the political situation in Nuapada changed after Jai Dholakia joined the BJP party on the 11th OCtober. While discussion was ongoing about Jai Dholakia becoming a candidate from BJD, he suddenly switched party to BJP.

BJP is expected to draw on the sympathy for Jay’s late father, a four-time MLA and former minister, and tap into his loyal support base.  Rajendra Dholakia was a senior BJD leader and a minister in Naveen Patnaik Government. He had polled 61,822 votes (33%) and won with a margin of 10,881 over Ghasiram in 2024.

Meanwhile, Congress candidate Ghasiram Majhi filed his nomination on Wednesday and BJD is expected to announce its candidate soon. Oct 20 is the last date for filing nominations for the Nov 11 bypoll.
