Kolkata: In the West Bengal’s Durgapur case, the latest development is that police have ruled out gang r**e charges, stating that the investigation suggests a single perpetrator was involved.
Earlier today, police have arrested the victim’s friend who was accompanying her on the night of the incident. Contrary to initial reports of gang rape, the police investigation has revealed that only one person was involved in the sexual assault.
According to the police, the victim’s friend had stepped out with the 23-year-old medical student when the incident occurred.
The victim, a second-year MBBS student from Odisha, was allegedly raped in a wooded area near her private medical college in Durgapur. The police have taken the victim’s friend into custody and are interrogating him to gather more information about the incident.
