Odisha CM announces 10 major initiatives for police modernisation and security up-gradation

 Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today announced as many as 10 major initiatives with an aim to modernize the police force and up-gradate the security of the state.

While speaking during the Home Department Appropriation discussion in the Assembly, Majhi outlined a series of major initiatives aimed at strengthening Odisha’s security architecture, police infrastructure, and administrative capacity. They are


  1. Massive expansion of police force:
  • 3 OSSF battalions, 3 OISF battalions, 10 ODRAF units, Traffic and Road Safety Wing, SDPO office at Chandikhole, 21 Cyber ​​Police Stations and a new police district at Rairangpur will be formed.
  1. Massive Recruitment:
  • 15,326 new posts have been created; recruitment process is underway for 3,557 posts. Recently, 1,858 Constables/Sipahis, 135 Gurkha, 404 Drivers, 177 Clerks have been recruited and 191 employees have been regularised.
  1. ERSS – Dial 112 Strengthening:
  • It has been fully operational across the state with more than 6,000 posts created to provide immediate emergency services.
  1. Action on Cyber ​​Crime:
  • 21 Cyber ​​and Economic Crime Police Stations, 999 special posts, 170 cyber experts and special unit to monitor online abuses.
  1. Cyber ​​Awareness:
  • 16 ‘Cyber ​​Raths’ launched under the ‘Stop, Verify, Be Secure’ campaign.
  1. Improvement in transportation and investigation system:
  • Second Scorpio vehicle for every police station; 3,655 two-wheelers for investigating officers; provision of laptops, smartphones and kits; record Rs 50 crore sanctioned for investigation.
  1. Strengthening of forensic system:
  • 247 new FSL posts created and 36 mobile forensic vans set up to speed up the evidence verification process.
  1. Coastal security enhanced:
  • Rs 149.96 crore allocated; 10 drones deployed; 5 patrolling trawlers sanctioned and new command and control centre set up in Bhubaneswar.
  1. Police welfare measures:
  • Clothing allowance increased and one month’s additional salary sanctioned for constables and havildars.
  1. Action against organised crime and improvement of fire service:
  • Operations like Prahar, Gaja, Chakra, Agni and Garuda are ongoing against drug trafficking. The fire service has received national acclaim and steps are being taken to modernise it.
