Class X student dies of electrocution while lowering national flag after Republic Day celebrations

 Jagatsinghpur: In a heart-wrenching incident, a class X student died reportedly after getting electrocuted while lowering the National Flag after the 77th Republic Day celebrations in Jagatsinghpur district today.

The deceased student has been identified as Omm Prakash Dwivedy.


According to reports, the national flag had been hoisted on the rooftop of a coaching centre in Samagola area of Kujang in the district, where Dwivedy was attending classes.

In the evening, Dwivedy was lowering the national flag before the sunset as per the protocol. However, he got electrocuted as current passed through the GI (galvanised iron) rod, to which the flag was fixed, after it came in contact with an overhead electric wire passing above the roof of the coaching centre.

Soon, Dwivedy was rushed to the local hospital for treatment, but unfortunately he was declared dead by the doctors.

The teachers and other students along with Dwivedy’s relatives also rushed to the hospital after getting information and mourned his tragic death

Though the deceased student was a native of Teragaon village in Kendrapara district, he was staying at his maternal uncle’s house in the Samagola area to attend classes in the concerned coaching centre.
