Daringbadi: In a distressing incident, a four-year-old girl died reportedly after drowning in a ‘chuas’ (three to four feet deep dug out pits with water) at Padanketa village under Daringbadi police station limits of Kandhamal district today.

The deceased girl has been identified as Ayushi Pradhan, the daughter of Akash Pradhan.
As per the information received, Ayushi attended the Republic Day celebrations at her anganwadi centre this morning. After returning home, she went alone to take a bath in the ‘chua’ near her house.
As she did not return home, her family members launched a search operation. After a frantic and long search at all possible locations, they rushed to the ‘chua’ and found Ayushi floating on the water and rescued her.
With the help of their relatives, Ayushi’s parents took her to the Daringbadi Community Health Centre (CHC) where doctor declared her dead.
Later, police reached the hospital after getting information about the girl’s death and seized the body for post-mortem. They also started an investigation to ascertain under what circumstances she fell in the water body and died after drowning.
