Unable to bear daughter’s public humiliation in ‘kangaroo court,’ man dies by suicide in Odisha

 Bhadrak: In a disturbing incident, a man died allegedly by suicide in Odisha’s Bhadrak district reportedly after unable to bear his daughter’s public humiliation in ‘kangaroo court.’


According to reports, some women along with local youths vandalised the shop of one Laxmipriya Parida at Chadadia panchayat under Bansada police station limits of the district alleging that she was involved in illegal liquor trading.

Later, the angry women and youths allegedly beat Laxmipriya up, dragged her out of the shop and publicly humiliated her by parading her throughout the village.

This apart, Laxmipriya was asked to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh but when she could not pay, they forcefully took Rs 10,000 from her before releasing her.

Unable to bear this torture and public humiliation of his daughter, Laxmipriya’s father Lambodar Tarai allegedly died by consuming poison last night.

The matter came to the light only when his family members filed a written complaint at the Bansada police station today alleging that he was forced to take the extreme step following the decision of the kangaroo court.

Meanwhile, police is said to have initiated an investigation into the matter.
