Over 150 Odia workers stranded in Uzbekistan, seeks govt help

 Bhubaneswar: Over 150 Odia workers are stranded in Yangiyoʻl of Uzbekistan reportedly after not getting their four months’ salaries from a construction company.

More than 1500 workers from India including over 150 from Odisha were reportedly working in the construction company as fitters, plumbers, welders and construction workers. However, the company has not paid them salary of last 4-5 months.


This apart, the company authorities allegedly terminated some of the Indian workers including several Odias as they demanded their dues. Following this, the workers have been staging a dharna for the past 15 days daring freezing temperatures ranging from -3°C to 4°C.

The matter of their migrated workers’ plight came to the light only after several video of their protest was shared on different social media platforms.

Through the social medias and their respective family members, the stranded workers sought help from the Odisha government and the central government to bring them back safely.
