Bhubaneswar: In a major setback for popular Odia jatra artiste Harisankar Tripathy better known as Piyush Tripathy for his stage name, the Bhubaneswar Civil Judge Junior Division today imposed a ban on him from performing on any of the jatra stages.
The court’s order barring Piyush Tripathy from performing on the stage came just a day after the actor made a return to the Jatra stage after nearly six months of ban by the jatra party owners.
The court conducted a hearing of the petition filed by Samir Kumar Tripathy, the owner of opera Surya Mandira Natya Anusthan, and imposed the ban on Piyush Tripathy till the next hearing of the case.
In his petition, Samir Tripathy had alleged that Piyush Tripathy had signed an agreement with him to work in his jatra troupe Surya Mandira Natya Anusthan for a period of two years starting from June 15, 2024 to June 14, 2026 for a consideration of Rs 40 lakh per year.
However, Piyush entered into an agreement with another jatra troupe without giving any prior notice to Samir Tripathy or refunding him the advance money.
“…One agreement was executed between the petitioner and O.P for a period of two years starting from 15.06.2024 to 14.06.2026. The O.P. being an actor, be joined with petitioner to act with them for a consideration of 40 ,00,000/ per year. Cause of action arose on 24.07.2025 when the O.P entered into an agreement without any notice or refund of advance money to the petitioner. So, it would be apt to restraining the O.P from performing for any other opera house till his appearance…” read the court order.
The court’s order has not just massively disappointed Piyush Tripathy alone, but also his uncountable fans, followers, well-wishers and co-actors who were on cloud nine over his return to the jatra show just a day ago.
