Bhubaneswar: Odisha is experiencing intense cold conditions this Magha month, with biting cold sweeping across the state. For the first time this year, the mercury has dipped close to 2 degrees Celsius, causing shivering cold across several regions in the State. As per information received, G. Udayagiri recorded the lowest minimum night temperature at 2.5°C, while Semiliguda reported 3.2°C.
The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum temperature of 9.4°C, making this the coldest January in the city since 2013.
According to weather reports, this January marks the third-lowest minimum temperature in Bhubaneswar since 1952. Earlier records include 8.6°C on January 5, 1992, 9°C on January 17, 2003, 9.3°C on January 15, 2012, and 9.4°C in January 1952. Today again, the minimum temperature in the capital stood at 9.4°C.
Along with Bhubaneswar, Cuttack also witnessed temperatures dropping below 10°C. Across the state, 24 cities recorded minimum temperatures below the 10-degree mark.
The Meteorological Department has predicted that the cold wave will continue for the next 48 hours. A yellow warning has been issued for 11 districts, advising people to remain cautious amid the prevailing cold conditions.
