Fake NIA Officer Arrested In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested in Bhubaneswar on Friday for allegedly impersonating an officer of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and attempting to influence police action in a case, police sources said.

The accused was apprehended at Kharavela Nagar Police Station after his conduct raised suspicion among police personnel.

According to sources, the man arrived at the police station and allegedly pressured officers to expedite action in a case filed by one of his female friends. During the interaction, he identified himself as an officer of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and produced a purported identity card to support his claim.

Police said the accused had arrived in a vehicle resembling an official police car. The vehicle bore a Tamil Nadu registration number along with stickers carrying the insignia of the Government of India and the Ministry of Home Affairs, further lending an appearance of authenticity to his claim.

Suspicious of his behaviour and credentials, police contacted the regional office of the NIA for verification. The agency reportedly confirmed that the man was not associated with it, following which he was taken into custody.

Police have seized the vehicle, the fake identity card and other forged documents from his possession.
