Bhubaneswar: The body of A. Ramaya, a native of Madhabhand village in Chikiti block of Ganjam district, who was killed in a drone strike in Moscow on Saturday, has been brought back to India.

Ramaya was employed with a private company in Russia. He died while at work when the strike hit Moscow. After his father and elder brother informed Ganjam District Magistrate about the incident, the DM wrote to the New Delhi Embassy seeking help.

Ramaya had travelled to Russia through the Maikon agency. Following the tragedy, the agency owner coordinated the repatriation process. He held a video conference with the CEO of the Russian company where Ramaya worked to arrange for transporting the body. The agency also mailed the Russian Embassy in New Delhi and officials in the Government of India to expedite formalities.

As a result, Ramaya’s body was flown back to Delhi. From Delhi, it was sent to Bhubaneswar Airport and then to his native village in Chikiti. Family members will perform the last rites at the village.
