Phulbani: The International Nurses Day was observed with great enthusiasm at the Kandhamal GNM Training Centre. District Collector Ved Bhushan graced the occasion as the chief guest and urged nursing students to serve with a strong sense of dedication and service mentality.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector highlighted the ideals of Florence Nightingale and Mother Teresa. He said that following their principles, dedication, and spirit of service would make a nursing career truly meaningful and successful.
Dr. Narendra Behera, Dean of Phulbani Medical College, attended as a guest of honour. He described nursing as a noble, dignified, and service-oriented profession. He stressed that in today’s times, proper training, dedication to duty, and up-to-date knowledge are essential for providing quality patient care.
The main speaker, Dr. Akshay Kumar Sahu, called nursing a challenging yet highly respected profession. He emphasised that it should not be viewed merely as a job but as a noble form of human service. “When nurses show good behaviour and compassion towards patients, the patients feel relief and recover faster,” he added.
Pirakudi Sarpanch Umacharan Malik said that a nurse’s service often saves the lives of patients. Khajuripada Tahsildar Shubhashree Rath described the nursing profession as a great responsibility that requires dedication, sincerity, and selfless service.

They highlighted how the centre has been successfully training hundreds of students for many years, providing quality education at affordable fees, and facilitating placements in various government and private hospitals, thereby promoting self-reliance among students.
Meritorious nursing students who excelled in various competitions were felicitated during the programme.
