Rainfall to lash Odisha, low pressure area likely to form around July 3

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood around July 3.

The weather system is expected to develop under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation persisting over the north Bay of Bengal adjoining south Bangladesh. The cyclonic circulation extends between 1.5 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestwards with height.

Under its influence, several parts of Odisha are likely to receive significant rainfall.

During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorm has occurred at many places over the districts of Odisha, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Cuttack and Deogarh. Further tracking and intensity of the system will be closely monitored by the meteorological department. People are advised to stay updated with weather bulletins, especially those living in coastal and low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, several districts of Odisha experienced intense rainfall activity during the last 24 hours, with four stations recording very heavy rainfall, according to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday.
