Khordha: A youth allegedly assaulted an on-duty police constable inside the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Khordha, triggering concerns over security and law and order in public institutions.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred inside the hospital premises where police personnel and private security guards were present. The youth reportedly became agitated and suddenly attacked a uniformed police constable, grabbing him by the collar and repeatedly slapping him.
Despite attempts by the constable to shield himself, the youth continued the assault for several moments before the situation could be brought under control. Several people present at the hospital witnessed the incident and recorded videos on their mobile phones. The footage has since gone viral on social media platforms.
Following the incident, personnel from the Khordha Adarsha Police Station reached the hospital, detained the accused youth, and have taken him to the police station for questioning.
Police sources said preliminary investigation suggests that the youth was under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the incident, which may have contributed to his aggressive behaviour.
The incident has sparked discussions among local residents and social media users about safety and security in public places, particularly after a police officer was allegedly attacked in a crowded hospital setting despite the presence of security personnel.
