Bhubaneswar: In a heartbreaking road accident, three members of a family were killed after the Thar vehicle they were travelling in lost control and crashed into a mango tree near Rajia under Champua police station limits in Kendujhar district in the wee hours of Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Trilochan Apat, his wife Kainphula Apat, and his brother Bhaskar Apat. Trilochan’s son, Ranjit Apat, a minor, sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of Kendujhar District Headquarters Hospital.
According to reports, Trilochan of Sijukala village was suffering from severe stomach pain. His family immediately decided to rush him to Champua Sub-Divisional Hospital in car for urgent medical attention. While on their way, the vehicle lost balance near Rajia and slammed head-on into a large mango tree on the roadside.
The impact was so severe that the front portion of the vehicle was completely crushed. Bhaskar Apat died on the spot. Trilochan, his wife Kainphula, and their son Ranjit were trapped inside the mangled vehicle with serious injuries.
Local residents rushed to the spot and informed the police and fire services. Champua Police and Fire Brigade personnel reached the accident site promptly and, with help from locals, extricated the injured persons from the wreckage.
They were first taken to Champua Sub-Divisional Hospital for initial treatment. As their condition deteriorated, the three were subsequently referred to Kendujhar District Headquarters Hospital. Tragically, Trilochan and his wife Kainphula succumbed to their injuries midway while being transported to Kendujhar in an ambulance. Their son Ranjit is battling for life in the ICU.
The entire Sijukala village and surrounding areas are plunged into deep mourning following the sudden loss of three family members in a single night. Police have seized the bodies for post-mortem and have initiated a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident.
