Bhubaneswar: The deep depression that crossed the Odisha-West Bengal coast near Digha has now moved further inland and is currently positioned over north interior Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), at 08:30 am on Tuesday, the centre of the deep depression lay near latitude 21.9°N and longitude 86.8°E. It is located about 10 km southeast of Baripada in Odisha, 40 km north-northwest of Balasore in Odisha, 80 km southwest of Midnapore in West Bengal, 120 km south-southeast of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, and 140 km east-northeast of Keonjhargarh in Odisha. The system moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 12 kmph during the past six hours.
The IMD has forecast that the deep depression is very likely to continue moving in the west-northwest direction across north Odisha, south Jharkhand, and north Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours.
This movement is expected to cause continued widespread rainfall, including heavy to very heavy spells, over parts of north and interior Odisha and neighbouring regions.
