Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rainfall across Odisha today under the influence of an active low-pressure area.
According to IMD’s prediction for today, heavy to extremely heavy rain is expected in several parts of the state, with the highest risk in southern districts .A red alert has been issued for Koraput and Malkangiri districts, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall. Orange alerts are in place for Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur, where heavy to very heavy rain is forecast.
Additionally, a yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for 12 districts which include Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Boudh, Subarnapur, Balangir, Nuapada, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj.
According to the IMD, rainfall activity is expected to intensify from today, with very heavy to extremely heavy spells likely at isolated places, particularly in southern Odisha. This could lead to flooding conditions in low-lying areas.
In view of rough sea conditions, the IMD and fisheries authorities have advised fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next four days.
