Jharsuguda: Police have arrested three members of an interstate theft gang from Tamil Nadu and recovered the entire ₹1 lakh stolen from a motorcycle in Jharsuguda district within 12 hours of the incident, officials said on Tuesday.
The theft took place on July 6 after the complainant withdrew ₹1 lakh from an HDFC Bank branch and parked his motorcycle near Swadist Hotel at Sunarimunda. The cash was allegedly stolen from the vehicle, following which a case was registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Acting on the directions of Superintendent of Police Jharsuguda, multiple police teams launched an investigation by analysing CCTV footage, carrying out technical surveillance and collecting intelligence, officials said.
Based on the evidence gathered, police apprehended the three accused and recovered the entire stolen amount along with two motorcycles, two iron T-shaped tools allegedly used in the crime, two mobile phones, two backpacks containing the clothes worn during the offence and other incriminating articles.
The arrested persons were identified as B. Jeevarathinam (35), C. Babu (44) and P. Zacraiya (45), all residents of Villivakkam in Chennai district of Tamil Nadu.
