Bhubaneswar: Several districts of Odisha experienced intense rainfall during the last 24 hours under the influence of the prevailing low-pressure system.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Athagarh in Cuttack district recorded the highest rainfall of 206 mm as of 8:30 am on Wednesday, making it the station with extremely heavy rainfall in the state.
Many other areas also witnessed very heavy to heavy showers. Notable recordings include Hatadihi in Keonjhar with 190.2 mm, Gurundia in Sundargarh with 165 mm, Khaira in Balasore with 139 mm, and Bhatli in Bargarh with 124.8 mm.
Significant rainfall was also reported from various stations in Sonepur, Deogarh, Nayagarh, Sambalpur, and other districts.
The IMD data shows that one station received extremely heavy rainfall, six stations recorded very heavy rainfall, and as many as 36 stations experienced heavy rainfall.
This widespread and intense spell of rain has led to concerns regarding waterlogging in low-lying areas and possible flooding in vulnerable regions.
The active monsoon conditions are expected to continue over the state for the next few days as the low-pressure system remains influential.
IMD has urged residents to remain cautious and take necessary precautions during this period of heavy rainfall.
