Bhubaneswar: A Class VI student is feared to have drowned in the Rushikulya river at Sorada in Ganjam district on Monday morning.
The boy has been identified as Kism Nayak of Mathasahi in Sorada. He is a student of Adarsha Vidyalaya.
As per initial reports, Kism had gone to take bath in the river around 9 am when he slipped and was swept away by the heavy water current. Locals who were nearby launched a search immediately and alerted the fire services personnel.
Subsequently, a team from the Fire department reached the location and started a rescue operation with the help of a boat. Rescue efforts are being hampered due to the river’s depth and strong flow.
The search operation by fire personnel along with locals was underway till last reports came in.
