Bhubaneswar: One of the five infant orangutans rescued earlier this month and brought to Nandankanan Zoological Park has developed fever, with its body temperature fluctuating and remaining higher than normal, prompting veterinarians to step up monitoring and treatment.
Zoo authorities said the infant orangutan is being kept under close observation and receiving round-the-clock veterinary care. Its temperature is being checked at regular intervals, while supportive treatment is being administered to stabilise its condition.
“The temperature of one of the animals is not showing signs of returning to normal. Our veterinarians are making all efforts to stabilise and maintain its temperature,” a zoo official said.
The remaining four infant orangutans are healthy and responding well to the care being provided at the zoo, officials said.
The five infant orangutans were brought to Nandankanan on September 8 after being rescued from an uncertain situation in Balasore. Since their arrival, the animals have been under continuous observation by zoo veterinarians and animal-care staff.
The rescued orangutans remain under intensive care at Nandankanan, with the veterinary team continuing to monitor their health.
