Bhubaneswar: In an unfortunate incident, avid mountaineer died after his motorcycle hit a bull in Chandrasekharpur area in Bhubaneswar on Thursday night, with the animal’s horns piercing his neck.
The deceased mountaineer has been identified as Jagannath Mahanta, a resident Bhagamunda panchayat in Kendujhar district.
As per reports, Mahanta was working as an engineer in a software company in Bhubaneswar. After completing his duty, he was returning home on his motorcycle when he suddenly spotted a bull sitting on the road. He applied the brakes but lost control of the bike, fell onto the animal and was impaled by its horns.
Preliminary investigation said the bull’s horns pierced Mahanta’s neck and he was bleeding profusely after the accident. Besides, the impact threw both Mahanta and his bike some distance away, causing a deep head injury.
Local people rescued him in critical condition and rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Upon being informed, Chandrasekharpur police have seized the body and registered a case of unnatural death. After post-mortem examination at Capital Hospital on Saturday, the body will be handed over to the family.
