Bhubaneswar: The district administration has extended summer vacation for schools in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions.
Government and private schools in Angul will now reopen on June 22 instead of the earlier scheduled date of June 18.
Angul District Education Officer informed that the decision was taken after assessing the ongoing heatwave situation in the region to safeguard the health and well-being of students. The state government had initially announced June 18 as the reopening date for schools across Odisha.
However, considering the intense heat conditions, district Collectors have been empowered to take appropriate decisions regarding school reopening in their respective districts. This move comes as several parts of the state continue to experience scorching temperatures, with meteorologists forecasting no immediate relief from the heatwave in the coming days.
Parents and students have welcomed the extension, citing concerns over children travelling to school and attending classes during peak afternoon heat. School authorities have been directed to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place for smooth functioning from June 22.
