Low Pressure Area Forms Over Bay of Bengal; Fishermen Advised Not To Venture Into Sea

 Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has developed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the coastal regions of north Odisha and West Bengal, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to the IMD, the low-pressure system formed at 8:30 am on July 2, under the influence of a cyclonic circulation that had been lingering over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Odisha coast since Wednesday.


However, the weather agency has stated that no cyclone is likely to develop in the region over the next seven days.

“Under the influence of Yesterday’s cyclonic circulation lay over northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining north Odisha coast, a Low Pressure Area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts at 0300 UTC of today, 02nd July 2026. The associated cyclonic circulation extended upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It’s likely to become more marked during next 2-3 days”, read IMD’s notification.

Meanwhile, fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha Coast from July 2 to July 6.
